Major milestone today, we passed 4000 miles!
Only a short day today, we decided to reduce the mileage of today and tomorrow from 1000km down to 700. Sadly this meant missing the final camp and we are spending the night in a truck stop at Atbasar on the way to Kostanay. We only had to cover 265km today. Its basic here but we just had a great meal of Borscht, dumplings and bread for $15 for all 4 of us. We even get 2 rooms! It’s been raining and we hear the camp is a bug fest, so maybe we are in the right place. Thanks again to Sophia for finding the accommodation for us.
We got pulled over by the police for the third time today, but only for photos as usual, they are very friendly and have very big hats. Most of the patrol cars are old Lada Neva 4×4 cars. I used to have one, and they are great.
The car went well with only a few backfires, although we are still down on power. Mitch drove well through the Nur Sultan traffic. The town is pretty amazing, with wonderful buildings. We stayed on the 22 floor of the hotel with great views.
We took advantage of the short day to give the car a full service including cleaning the vaporizer and burner plate. Let’s hope this gives us more power tomorrow. The burner plate is starting to suffer after 4000 miles and we had to do some repairs with fire cement. We have a spare, but will try and make this one last as long as possible.
Off early on the morning to do the 450km to the night stop. Which will be our last full day here. It’s a very green country and remains fairly flat on our route. Many herds of horses by the road.

Repaired burner plate and Dave’s knees!
Thanks for the update Chris, wishing you all the best.
How do I track your progress?
Love
